تعتبر مشكلة التأخر الدراسي من المشاكل المنتشر في كافة المجتمعات بدون استثناء، وقد حظيت باهتمام من التربويين وعلماء النفس والمدرسين والآباء والأمهات، واعتبروها من أهم المشكلات العصرية التي تعتبر مصدراً لإعاقة النمو والتقدم للحياة المتجددة للأجيال والوطن.
لذلك تلخصت مشكلة البحث في التعرف على المشاكل المسببة للتأخر الدراسي، وكافة الجوانب المرتبطة بالتأخر الدراسي من عواقب وآثار وحلول بكافة مجالاتها.
إن التأخر الدراسي مشكلة متعددة الأبعاد. فهو مشكلة نفسية وتربوية واجتماعية يهتم بها علماء النفس والمربون والأخصائيون الاجتماعيون والآباء؛ وإن تخلف بعض التلاميذ دراسياً وعجزهم عن مسايرة أقرانهم تحصيلياً قد يثير لديهم العديد من الاضطرابات النفسية ومظاهر السلوك غير السوي؛ كما أن تخلف التلميذ دراسياً يثير القلق لدى الوالدين، كذلك فإن التخلف الدراسي ينعكس أثره اجتماعياً في صورة ميزانيات تهدر دون عائد يذكر.

Abstract: The problem of educational retardation is one of the problems that is prevalent in all societies without exception, and it has received attention from educators, psychologists, teachers, and parents, and they consider it one of the most important modern problems that are a source of hindering growth and progress for a renewed life for generations and the nation. Therefore, the research problem was summarized in identifying the problems that cause academic delay, and all aspects related to educational retardation, including consequences, effects, and solutions in all fields. Educational retardation is a multidimensional problem. It is a psychological, educational, and social problem that psychologists, educators, social workers, and parents are concerned with. The fact that some students are left behind in school and unable to keep up with their peers in achievement may cause many psychological disorders and manifestations of abnormal behavior. Just as the student’s academic backwardness raises concern among the parents, the educational backwardness also reflects its impact socially in the form of wasted budgets without a significant return.
